Toothpick Sculpture Sunday

Forget book club, cancel that tupperware party and stash your cookie recipes until the next recipe-trading Sunday - toothpick sculpture making parties are the new rage, well, at least for this design-inclined household. In honor of Dwell On Design which made its way to Downtown LA for the 6th year in a row, Tami, Chase, Frank and I decided to be as festive as possible on such a special occasion (on an "occasional" weekend such as this).

Interested? Here's a play-by-play of our party - one toothpick at a time:

Props to Tami and Chase for the supplies and the endless amount of toothpicks (flat preferred).

Tacky glue, in this case, becomes hardly tacky.

A Dwell magazine, always handy in this household, becomes perfect for that last-minute inspiration.

No toothpick sculpture making party could be complete without a batch of homemade cookies (thanks to our Mrs. Beasley aka Tami Carey)...

...and a couple pints of Scandinavian Häagen-Dazs ice cream. (Scandinavian because we wanted to achieve more of a "modern" faire).

Sidenote: The name Häagen-Dazs is basically made to look Scandinavian despite the fact that it is technically not Scandinavian in form.

Ice cream sandwiches are, as Tina Turner put it, SIMPLY THE BEST!

Our "white noise" for the duration of the evening: Helvetica by Gary Hustwit, playing in the background.

These kind of parties often bring out a more intense atmosphere.

...strategic even...

...a little competitive in nature!

Our own "Oreo" cookie even took a front seat at our little gathering. Although, it was short-lived.

The results:

Simply swell on a simply 'Dwell' type of weekend!
