The Split Pea That Could Split Your Pants

(Seen: a bowl of split pea soup from Andersen's, Santa Nella, CA)

I am not a connoisseur of wines (as much as I pop open a bottle as often as I do), neither am I a connoisseur of cheeses (as often as I may "cut them"). But I will say that I am a huge fan of split pea soup. I know good pea and I will say that this pea soup from Andersen's, a small "traveller's restaurant" off the side of interstate-5 does give good split pea. So much so that they are willing to give you as much as you can eat at one sitting. Order the traveller's meal if you want all-you-can-eat-split-pea. I think the secret lies in its consistency. I'm pretty sure the dish contains a lot of sugar to make this split pea soup as thick as it is. Whatever the case, if I had nothing else better to do on a Saturday evening and had half a night to kill, I'd consider driving up north for some split pea soup - well, maybe not, but at least I'd consider buying a can or two and storing it in my kitchen cabinets.
