If it happened to me it can very well happen to you so please take caution. I fell victim to "skimming". It's a form of identity theft that's become an all too familiar story from coast to coast. Skimming is a form of stealing credit card or checkcard information by running a credit or debit card through a hand-held electronic device. In my situation, the target became "pay-at-pump" gas station machines.
Advice: Cash is king! Pay inside with the attendant when pumping for gas. Only use plastic with companiees you trust or who are well-known. And make sure to check your accounts consistently because the more you are aware of what you're spending, the better your chances at protecting yourself when something like this hits.
Hopefully it won't happen to you but take heed and be cautious. Have a good day!
