I grew up with them on what seems like every corner in LA (well, the corners more oft visited by more danger-seeking pedestrians). My friend Tami (www.tamaracarey.com) swears by them - and her tastebuds are pretty picky to say the least. They're the fresh fruit carts wheeled around Vermont, Western, Santa Monica Blvd's. They can surely be found in front of Latin storefronts in Hollywood or South LA or even at the entrance to Olivera Street in Downtown.
How fresh are they? Where do the fruits that line the acrylic walls of these carts get prepared? Are these cart wheeling entrepreneurs trustworthy? How sanitary are they? You'd think because this is LA you'd see a letter grade propped up against the wheels, but no, there aren't any around.
I think with all the crap I've eaten, my stomach's become immune to bacteria. <--- I've totally jinxed it now. With MY luck, my trip to Asia next week will quickly be "churned" into a case of diarrhea. FUN!
Do not eat from there! There's one fruit cart near my place and i saw him blow his nose and didn't even use a hand sanitizer and then a customer came and he used his hand to grab the fruit. YUCK!!!!
